ACCELERATED READER
Students will choose and read books on their reading level from
a list of AR books (not all books are AR). Copies of these lists
are for viewing at the following places: HCE Media Center, Huntersville
Library, and University Library.
AR books are available in the HCE Media Center and your local library.
The AR books in the Media Center are labeled with colored dots according
to reading level.
After the student reads an AR book he/she will then go to a school
computer to take the AR test. The student answers 5-20 questions
depending on the length of the book. The computer scores the test
and awards points based on the test score.
Children should set individual goals and should not be competing
against other students. Please encourage your child to read AR books
and take a test at least once a week. Each student should be reading
approximately 30 minutes each night; and why not read an AR book
for points and prizes. It's a great way for parents to monitor their
child's comprehension! Be sure your child is reading on their reading
level.
A few guidelines to remember are:
- Students must be independent readers.
- Students in second through 5th grades must be able to independently
access tests on the computer.
- Kindergarten and first grade students who need it will have
the assistance of an assistant or parent volunteer to help them
access the test on the computer until they can test independently.
(Tests questions must be answered by the student without assistance).
- Students must read books in their reading range.
- Students can only take tests on books that have been read within
2 weeks.
- Students can only use their book to enter the title or author
to help find the correlating test. They may not use the book to
help them answer the questions.

AR Tests will continually be added to these
lists throughout the school year, and we will update them as
we are given the information. For this reason, there may be
tests that are not on this list. Thank you for your patience.
